“You don’t need to have the perfect solutions. Work things out as you go along.”

Birmingham and Solihull CCG Case study published today shares Top Tips to others looking at how to introduce Personal Health Budgets (PHBs) in their areas.

This case study is part of a qualitative evaluation across various sites participating in a national evaluation of Mental Health Personal Health Budgets.

The right to have a Personal Health Budget came into effect in December 2019 for all eligible patients under Section 117 of the Mental Health Act. PHBs are a way of introducing a greater degree of choice and flexibility into supporting a person’s mental health recovery. Everyone has different circumstances, needs and interests and the ways to support people to keep well are different for each individual.

NDTi are working with Birmingham and Hackney to explore the experience of staff in managing and supporting the delivery of PHBs in their local areas. We will also learn directly from budget holders themselves about the impact it has had on their lives.
