Our Small Supports activity is about thinking and working with people with learning disabilities and/or autism who have ‘hefty reputations’ (to borrow a phrase to describe people who are burdened by the reputations they have been given because of behaviours, reactions, support requirements and large funding packages).
Small supports organisations have a lot in common; here are nine key characteristics they share.
UK Research and Innovation have funded a study to find out the experiences of the coronavirus pandemic for people with learning disabilities. The research is being led by Professor Richard Hastings (University of Warwick) and Professor Chris Hatton (Manchester Metropolitan University).
We were appointed by Health Education England, Skills for Care and the Department of Health and Social Care to be the independent evaluation partner for the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Learning Disability and Autism Training trial. We worked in partnership with My Life My Choice and bemix and the final reports are published here.
Conversations have reflected a common view that commissioning, as it currently exists, has a number of common issues:
As part of our Community Inclusion work, we explored the approaches and tools that can ensure older people and people with learning disabilities can be connected and contribute to their local communities.
Our team, led by our highly skilled Autistic Associates, carry out environmental sensory assessments in hospitals.
NDTi has been collaborating with ASDAN to review and modernise their transition modules to encompass the Preparing for Adulthood outcomes.
NDTi’s Children & Young People team has been working with the Whole School SEND consortium to deliver much-needed transition training for school staff and advisors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
