Change that leads to better lives

My Independence

NDTi has been collaborating with ASDAN to review and modernise their transition modules to encompass the Preparing for Adulthood outcomes. The result of this work is a suite of four certificated programmes, titled My Independence, for young people with a range of special educational needs.

"The flexibility of the programmes is a real positive and I can see that we could make it a good fit for all learners.” – feedback from pilot centre

Mapped to the four Preparing for Adulthood pathways (employment; friends, relationships and community; good health; and independent living), My Independence is ASDAN’s key programme to achieve positive outcomes for young people with an education, health and care plan. The programmes can be used within an existing curriculum or to shape a curriculum that promotes preparing for adulthood outcomes.

The key aims of the My Independence programmes are to raise aspirations and specifically address the needs of young people with profound and multiple learning difficulties; severe learning difficulties; and moderate learning difficulties through meaningful and creative learning opportunities. Each programme provides a real-life context to reward achievement and foster the personal, social and work-related abilities of all learners by focusing on a person-centred planning approach.
