NDTi supported Age UK Doncaster to evaluate the first 18 months of their circles of support project.

The Communuty Circles project aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness by supporting people to reconnect or start to develop new connections in their community.

The service is completely flexible, and can help people explore all sorts of things; from starting a newhobby, to getting back to their local church or getting out and about more. Age UK Doncaster are looking to recruit 400 vounteers over the next 5 years to help them to do this.

As Evaluation Partner, NDTi worked with Age UK Doncaster to create a Logic Model, and evaluate the success of the project against three key outcomes:

  • Older people at risk of institutionalisation have more confidence in managing their long-term health conditions and staying independent
  • Older people at risk of institutionalisation have increased mental wellbeing and improved physical health
  • Older people at risk of institutionalisation are less isolated and more active in their communities.

As part of the project, NDTi recruited Citizen Evaluators, to help us with this work.

To find out more about the project please contact Carol Clifford, NDTi's Ageing and Older People Programme Lead.
