Once you are registered to vote, you will need to have a Photo ID to show if you vote in person.

This Photo ID proves who you are.

There are different ways to vote in the UK:

  • In person (on your own or with support)
  • Postal voting
  • Proxy voting (when someone votes for you)

You only need Photo ID if you are voting in person.

Different types of photo ID: Passport, bus pass, disabled person's parking permit, voter authority certificate

You can use lots of different things for your Photo ID:

  • Passport
  • Driving licence
  • Blue badge card
  • PASS cards (Proof of Age Standards Scheme)

If you don’t have a Photo ID you can get a free Voter Authority Certificate.

You might want to get help from someone to help you register to vote as the form can be a little bit complicated for some people.
