We do this in a range of ways:
- Through the delivery of the Advocacy Quality Performance Mark (QPM).
- Hosting the Advocacy Code of Practice and Advocacy Charter.
- Undertaking and publishing research, reviews and evaluations into the impact and effectiveness of advocacy.
- Coproducing the development and sharing of resources that support effective commissioning and delivery of independent advocacy. For example, these Safeguarding resources, these resources to support effective outcome measures within advocacy, and this training hub.
- Hosting the annual Advocacy Awareness Week.
- Hosting training and best practice webinars for advocates, advocacy providers, commissioners and those working alongside advocates. For example, we recently ran a session for CQC inspectors, commissioned by CQC.
- Co-designing and leading a new Advocacy Network.
- As subject matter experts. For example:
- giving evidence to parliamentary committees and consultations,
- as a guideline committee member for the NICE advocacy guideline,
- supporting the development of grant programmes,
- contributing to the development of new legislation and guidance, and
- being a member of the Independent Oversight Panel for ICETRs, Safeguarding Adults National Network, The CBF National Strategy Group and The Organisational Abuse Expert Reference Group.

Our work through the Advocacy QPM means we have a unique perspective and strategic oversight of advocacy delivery across England and Wales.
This includes:
- opportunities and challenges,
- the issues impacting on advocacy delivery,
- as well as issues impacting people who draw on advocacy support.
We bring this perspective to all our development activities, supporting advocacy best practice.
Over recent years the advocacy programme has grown considerably, and we have been able to broaden our reach and influence with national and local key strategic partners and within the advocacy community.
In 2023 we published this review of advocacy for people with a learning disability and autistic people who are staying in mental health settings. And, we receive frequent requests from commissioners and providers of advocacy to undertake various pieces of project work on a local, regional or national level.
