Professor Donald Macaskill

Thank you for your interest in becoming NDTi’s new Co-Executive Director, Growth, Partnerships and Delivery.

This is a significant moment for NDTi. We have a clear strategy, a committed and talented team, a strong history of impact, and an important role to play in a changing world. The need for work that strengthens inclusion, rights, voice and practical change has never been clearer.

NDTi works alongside people and organisations who want to do more for the people they serve. We help them build on strengths, connect evidence with lived experience, and turn ambition into practical change.

We are looking for someone who can help strengthen our reach, build purposeful partnerships, secure sustainable income, and increase NDTi’s profile and influence. This is a substantial leadership role, with real responsibility for NDTi’s future sustainability, relationships, reputation and reach.

But this role is about more than expansion or income. At NDTi, income, partnerships and influence matter because they help us do better work, reach further, listen more deeply and contribute to a more inclusive society. The right person will understand that our mission and values must shape every opportunity we pursue.

Our shared Co-Executive leadership model reflects how NDTi works best. It is collaborative, relational and grounded in shared responsibility for the whole organisation. We are looking for someone with the judgement, credibility and influence to lead alongside others, while valuing the knowledge and experience of colleagues, associates, partners and people with lived experience.

For the right person, this is a rare opportunity to help lead a nationally respected organisation with deep values, strong relationships, real expertise and a clear purpose.

If you share our commitment to a world where everyone matters, and where people can live the life they choose, we would be delighted to hear from you.

How to apply

Please send the following documents to recruitment@ndti.org.uk
by 9am on Monday 14 September 2026.

  • Your CV
  • A supporting statement

More information

Your supporting statement must be no longer than 1500 words. It should help us understand why this role, why NDTi, and what you would bring.

Please write in your own voice and use clear examples. We are interested in your judgement, motivation, values and approach, not just a list of previous roles.

You do not need to respond to every line of the Person Specification. The areas below are intended to guide you, not to create a rigid checklist.

You do not need to respond to these areas mechanically or in order. We are interested in how you have helped shape ideas into credible, deliverable and financially sound opportunities that are aligned with purpose.

Your connection to NDTi’s purpose and values

Tell us why NDTi’s work matters to you, and how your values have shaped the way you lead, work with others and make decisions. We are particularly interested in examples where values needed to be held carefully alongside complexity, risk or competing pressures.

Lived experience, voice, rights and inclusion

Tell us how you have worked in ways shaped by the insight, leadership and voice of people with lived experience. We are interested in how this has influenced decisions, programmes, partnerships, learning, evidence or wider change.

Your understanding of NDTi’s field of work

Tell us about your understanding of the areas NDTi works in, such as social care, health, rights, inclusion, public systems, disability, ageing, children and young people, equalities, community or system change. Help us understand how your experience would support NDTi’s work and future direction.

Practice-grounded development, delivery and capability-building

Tell us how your practical work with people, organisations or systems has shaped your leadership and judgement. We are interested in how you use relevant theories, methods or approaches to support change, and how you help others build confidence, leadership and capability through facilitation, coaching, feedback, shared learning or practical development support.

Growth, income and sustainable opportunity development

Tell us about your experience of shaping funded, commissioned, partnership-based or larger-scale work. We are interested in how you have helped move ideas into credible, deliverable and financially sound opportunities that are aligned with purpose.

Judgement across mission, money, risk, capacity and relationships

Tell us about how you approach difficult decisions where there are tensions between opportunity, purpose, income, capacity, delivery quality, risk and relationships. You may wish to include an example where you helped decide whether to pursue, reshape or decline an opportunity.

Partnerships, relationships and influence

Tell us how you build relationships and partnerships that create opportunity, extend influence, support impact and strengthen organisational credibility. We are interested in how you use relationships to support shared purpose and organisational strength, not only personal profile.

Senior and shared leadership

Tell us about your experience of senior strategic leadership in a complex environment, including how you have helped shape strategy, culture, performance, risk, sustainability or decision-making. We are also interested in how you work with governance, such as a Board, trustee body or equivalent structure, and how you lead in collaborative or shared leadership environments. Please help us understand how you influence without relying on hierarchy, respond to challenge, support others to contribute, and hold the whole organisation in view.

If you are interested in the role and would appreciate an informal conversation before deciding whether to apply, please email recruitment@ndti.org.uk.

This is entirely optional. Some people find a conversation helpful, while others will have everything they need from the Candidate Pack and Role Description. Either is fine, and this will not form part of the selection process.

We want candidates to feel able to make an informed decision about whether this is the right role, the right organisation and the right moment for them.
