Model City London was a new approach to working with three London communities to identify the issues they want to address to improve the wellbeing of local people and their neighbourhood, through sport and physical activity. It’s an inspiring and ambitious programme for change, with lots of great things that happenned between October ‘19 and February ‘21. It has excited and energised people and partners at all levels ever since, uniting a diverse range of players around a shared vision for change through sport and physical activity.

Facts and figures
In spite of the massive challenge created by the COVID-19 pandemic, an impressive number of new sport opportunities funded through MCL have delivered activities that have benefited local people. Having a secure partnership in place in each of the participating Boroughs before the pandemic struck enabled a coordinated response, mobilising resources and encouraging mutual support to keep going and in some cases for small groups and organisations to keep afloat. The MCL Coalitions have helped build local organisations’ resilience to help them weather the pandemic, learn new skills and embrace new ways of working even in the most difficult of times.
As a result, over 5,200 people have benefited from new and diverse opportunities for sport and physical activities. The majority of participants have benefited from changes in four main areas, illustrated in the section below.
