On 5 November 2025, Internships Work hosted a knowledge-sharing webinar focused on follow-on support for young people completing supported internships. The session provided examples of follow on support and a chance to share knowledge and learning.

Key take aways
Follow-on support really matters: Young people may need continued employment support to move into employment following their internship. It helps maintain momentum, builds confidence, and increases the likelihood of sustained employment.
Creative ideas were shared: People talked about job clubs, reverse job fairs, extra coaching, and linking to local employment teams. These are great ways to keep supporting interns.
Keeping the same job coach helps: If young people can keep working with the same coach after their internship, it makes the transition smoother and builds trust.
Working together is powerful: Collaborating across SEND employment forums, local authority teams, colleges, and national programmes helps maximise the effect of each programme and improve communication to young people and employers.
Mapping and communication are key tools: Several areas are using service mapping and shared team meetings or managers to clarify roles, improve referrals, and ensure young people know where to go for support after their internship ends.
