Change that leads to better lives

Peer support for autistic people and their families

Autistic Experts by Experience working on the Care Education and Treatment Review (CETR) programme told us that they believe more ongoing ‘peer support’ would be beneficial to individuals who are at risk of admission and their families.

They told us that they have more experience and support to offer that would help individuals and families to be heard, engaged, supported and to imagine a different and more positive future.

We have developed a peer support framework for both the autistic individual and their family. It clearly sets out expectations: for example, peer charter, working agreements, operational set up and governance.

To date we have had excellent feedback from both commissioners and those receiving the support.

I'm a support worker looking for peer support for a client who is a high functioning autistic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks Paul
