Helping Families First is a two year project (January 19-February 21) funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, in order to extend and develop Royal Society for Blind Children's existing Family Support Service (FSS) in four areas including North Wales, Kent, the North East and the West Midlands. The aim of the FSS is to provide highly focused, individualised interventions that enable parents and wider family members to support their vision impaired children to become engaged, resilient, independent young adults, thereby increasing their life chances as well as achieving their goals. FSS operates at two key levels of change: empowerment of individual families, and systemic change within statutory services.
