NDTi have been asked by the NHS England and Improvement (NHSEI) Learning Disability Team, to undertake a piece of exploratory work to garner greater understanding of the role learning disability nurses have in in-patient settings in England. This piece of work builds on the work previously undertaken by NHSEI and NDTi to celebrate, inform and challenge the broader role of learning disability nurses in England: This is us – This is What We Do.

This project will hear from people with learning disabilities who have recently left an in-patient setting in England, family members of people with learning disabilities who have recently left an in-patient setting in England, learning disability nurses and Allied Health Professionals who work in in-patient settings in England, and student learning disability nurses.

Findings of this work will help inform a role-description for the profession in in-patient settings and promote it as a career choice for the learning disability nursing workforce, student nurses and potential nurses of the future.
