Sarah-Jane (SJ) is passionate protector and supporter of children’s rights. She works as an advocacy manager having first been an advocacy worker. SJ has supported young people with numerous issues they may face such as supporting young people who need help to access their rights and to navigate complex systems and legislation such as The Additional Support for Learning Act Scotland (2018) (as amended), the Mental Health Care and Treatment Act (2003) and supporting young people with challenging imbalances of power within their lives.
SJ now manages multiple services as an advocacy manager including a Scottish nationwide service for children (aged12-15) to support their education, two mental health services, a secure care service and multiple residential services. Within this role she supports young people and her team to ensure rights are upheld and the young person’s voice is heard.
SJ also works as a supervisor at Childline after being a staff counsellor for many years. Listening and supporting young people and allowing them the time and space to uncover their path and be in control of their choices is something she has practice of and believes is the key to young people’s autonomy.
Outside of work SJ spends time with friends, family and her beloved dog Louie and is a huge animal lover. SJ believes she works so well with young people because she still is one at heart and enjoys a collection of Disney treasures and combines her love for Disney and animals and tries to collect everything Disney Dog related!
