Change that leads to better lives

New Preparing for Adulthood demonstration sites

In May 2016, after some strong competition we announced our new Preparing for Adulthood demonstration sites.

We had 22 expressions of interest for nine regions, so it was difficult to choose. We really wanted a range of sites that covered both rural and urban areas, with a mixed demographic that could give us the best opportunity to demonstrate what is possible in delivering the PfA reforms; and to offer support to deliver real progress over the next nine months in a number of key priority areas:

  1. Exemplar Local Offers around PfA
  2. Exemplar Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans around PfA
  3. Progress on integration and strategic joint commissioning between education, health and care and between children's and adult services
  4. Strategic engagement of parent/carers and young people around PfA
  5. Employment and paid work for young people
  6. Progress on thinking creatively around personal budgets and personalisation linked to PfA.

The sites and their priority areas are as follows:

  • West Midlands region - Dudley LA - Local offer, EHC Plans, Strategic engagement
  • North West region - Cheshire and West Cheshire LA - Local offer, Personal budgets and personalisation, Employment
  • East Midlands region - Rutland LA - EHC Plans, Personal budgets and personalisation, Integration and joint commissioning
  • Yorks and Humber region - Leeds LA - Local Offer, EHC Plans, Strategic engagement
  • London region - Kingston and Richmond LA - Strategic engagement, Integration and joint commissioning, EHC Plans
  • South East region - Portsmouth LA - Integration and joint commissioning, EHC Plans
  • North East region - Newcastle LA - Employment, Personal budgets and personalisation, EHC Plans
  • East of England region - Hertfordshire LA - Strategic engagement, Employment, Integration and joint commissioning
  • South West region - Bath and NE Somerset LA - EHC Plans, Employment

Over the next year, the Preparing for Adulthood team will be working with each area to develop best practice learning examples that will be shared on the PfA website, Facebook and Twitter. We will also continue to work across the country offering regional support and activity, particularly around employment and partnership working.
