Advocacy in Wales

Published: 17/07/17

Those of you involved in advocacy provision in Wales may know that the Welsh Government has established a Technical Group to advise on:

  • Updating Part 10 of the Code of Practice on Advocacy to take account of the National Approach to Advocacy for Children.  This will require the inclusion of the Standards and Outcomes Framework; and
  • Finalising the definition for Independent Professional Advocacy and setting the standards for the regulated services under the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016.  This work will ensure there is sufficient alignment with standards under the National Standards and Outcomes Framework to avoid duplication and provide clarity for local authorities and providers

The Welsh Government is aiming for this work to be completed by the winter as they intend to lay the revised code on Part 10 in the winter and have a developed position under the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016 (RISCA).

NDTi were really pleased to attend the first of the Technical Group’s meetings and are hoping to be able to continue to input into these important developments in Wales.
