The closure of long-stay institutions, whether in Slovenia, France, Sweden, or the UK, all depends on having good quality, person-centred support in the community, able to enable people to live independently and to be included.
Co-hosts: Steven Allen and Dr Clenton Farquharson
For some, personal assistants may work; for others, often those with more individual and complicated support needs, an organisation may be best placed to offer the support needed.
Small Support organisations in the UK, developed as part of the closure of a long-stay hospital in Scotland, are seen as a key part of the solution. Many discussions have been had with people across Europe about their application in different circumstances; this Roundtable steps back from Small Supports and tackles the challenge of how to ensure the provision of good quality, person-centred and, importantly, local community-based support for people with intellectual disabilities, psycho-social disabilities and/or autistic people.
This event is hosted by IRSSV (Slovenia) and NDTi (UK).
