Who is this for?

  • Young people aged 14-25 with additional support needs in Scotland

  • It doesn’t matter if you’re in school, left school, working, or looking for work.
  • You don’t need any special label or diagnosis to get help. We’re here for you.
  • Parents and carers can get information on transition too.

How does it work?

You’ll chat online with one of our friendly supporters. They really listen to you:

  • What you’re good at.
  • What you enjoy.
  • What you want for your future.

We focus on your ideas and help you plan your way.

What will I get?

We can connect with you online (like Zoom or Teams), on the phone, or even by text. Whatever works best for you!

These chats will help you:

  • Feel more confident.
  • Form your ideas for the future (like jobs, learning, living skills, or hobbies).
  • Find useful information easily.
  • Get the right support when you need it.

Schools and youth groups can also access free, fun and interactive Planning Live sessions.

Our goal is simple: to put young people first and help you get the right support at the right time.

Time to Talk Next Steps has been developed with young people, for young people. The original programme ran in England for three years and then as a pilot in Scotland for one year.

Our team of expert supporters provide direct online support for young people with additional support needs and their parents and carers. Evaluation on delivery of this work has shown that a personalised, flexible approach can be invaluable for young people with additional support needs.

Our team has knowledge and experience of working with children and young people in relation to mental health, children and young peoples rights, additional support needs, youth work and transition to young adulthood.

Find out more about Time to Talk Next Steps, including programme evaluations and stories from young people.

Time to Talk Next Steps supports the Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC) framework in supporting and and safeguarding the wellbeing of all children and young people.
