With Inclusion in Mind
The Scottish Government commissioned this guidance for local authorities in 2007.
It was written by Peter Bates of NDTi with advice from a steering group. The ‘community audit’ at Appendix one and the ‘floor tile’ sheets at Appendix two are applicable to all communities everywhere where people want to check out if the community is accessible to all.
The Banff Inclusion Project is one initiative that grew up in response to the With Inclusion in Mind guidance. In November 2010 the project was shortlisted for an award by the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities. Please see the links in the right hand column for more details on one of their recent activities and for information about the award.
The town of Garioch is aiming to become the first socially inclusive town in the UK. Local groups and professional artists in Garioch have collaborated on a project to identify and capture the barriers faced by people in their local communities and are set to put Inverurie on the UK’s map of social inclusion.
