Wendy Wallace

Wendy Wallace is Chief Executive of Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust. Camden and Islington provides mental health and social care services in the heart of London, the area is very diverse with high levels of mental health need. As a former Care Trust Camden and Islington has had the integration of social and health care at its heart for many years.

Camden and Islington was an early implementer of the mental health NSF services, with the first crisis teams in place in 1999 and the whole array of new services in place by 2003. The main evaluations of these services in a British context were undertaken by clinical researchers in the Trust.

Wendy began her career as a clinical psychologist, working in mental health and substance misuse. Shortly after moving into a management role she took on responsibility for both health and social care services. Apart from a brief period, she has remained responsible for joint health and social care services for the past 25 years. During that time integration of services has moved into the mainstream. She was very instrumental in the development of Joint Commissioning. She has spoken on health and social partnerships for many years. She is a strong advocate for recovery, social inclusion and user led services.
